Amazon is looking for a team-oriented, highly analytical individual with a strong passion for sports and outdoor recreation to join the Sports & Outdoors team, as we seek to become the most authentic and trusted specialty retailer for athletes and enthusiasts. The CATEGORY SPECIALIST will be responsible for developing and managing the Sport Category. This is an immersive role, responsible for a range of business development deliverables, Selling Partner relationship management, retail strategy (sales/promotions), and driving foundational improvements to our catalog and detail page structures that help to deliver a best-in-class customer experience in the Sport Category.

The candidate will be responsible for meeting the following targets: brand/creator/publisher recruitment and management, product specific catalog and CX deliverables, and core P&L KPIs for the brands they work with (revenue and margin growth, selection count, etc.). They must possess a high-degree of ownership, a motivation to deliver results and track against core inputs, an ability to make data-backed decisions, and an interest to collaborate cross-functionally.
In addition, this position is expected to provide expertise within their category. The CATEGORY SPECIALIST should have an in-depth understanding of what customers want/need when purchasing equipment in the Sport Category.

Key job responsibilities
The successful CATEGORY SPECIALIST must:
•Have a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and business trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments.
•Analyze data from multiple sources and present recommendations on trends and opportunities
•Possess an authentic enthusiasm/expertise for the category that allow them to interact appropriately with relevant brands, publishers, and creators
•Be comfortable engaging as the first point of contact and generating new connections with external partners
•Act as the primary point of contact and the internal advocate for vendors and customers, helping to prioritize actions across marketing, merchandising, catalog, and supply chain management
•Manage vendor, creator and publisher relationships – covering relevant contracts, day-to-day operations, and negotiations
•Manage challenging category goals, issues, and projects that improve Amazon CX while helping to meet selection, growth and profitability goals.
•Understanding drivers and opportunities of the category P&L
•Have a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to advocate for and drive delivery of site features that provide Amazon customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
•Contribute to category’s business strategy and break it down into actionable goals
•Engage multiple stakeholders (internal & external) to problem solve, surface defects, extract and analyze data, and drive continuous improvement for the category, while meeting tight deadlines
•Instituting best practices and processes which can be replicated across all categories
•Act as a team player, who indexes highly on ownership and bias for action in order to meet time sensitive deliverables

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

•Are 18 years of age or older
•Ability to begin 40-hour/week, full-time employment in Seattle by June 2025
•Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with a graduation conferral date between December 2024 and June 2025, or graduated from bachelor’s degree program within past 24 months.
